Outposts in Beyond These Stars sit on a galaxy map Kewa travels

Beyond These Stars leaves the whale’s back once the Peeps can ask Kewa to move. The official galaxy article says they travel after finding evidence that ancient Peeps lived on, and moved between, planets in this galaxy. Outposts are settlements on habitable worlds. Named alien factions, and the goods those factions trade, are not listed in the sources this page uses.

Why the city leaves Kewa

The Steam store text says Kewa’s environment is plentiful and still limited. Essential resources and space run short, and over-using the whale’s land shrinks the habitat. Outposts on nearby planets are the alternative supply. The same paragraph says a weak relationship with Kewa makes it hard to know how long the whale will stay in a system.

The developer press kit says the cosmos is procedurally generated, and that Kewa has to be persuaded to remain long enough to extract planetary resources. LadiesGamers, in a pre-release review, says each save’s terrain, resource placement, and galaxy can differ. The press kit is the source for procedural generation. The review is the source for the claim that two saves are not the same layout.

Travel itself spends Kewa’s energy. Longer trips cost more. Eating restores it, which is why the galaxy article says Kewa will pass through debris fields and eat asteroids when possible. A request made with the Strange Transmitter can be accepted or replaced by a food detour. That relationship is described on the Kewa page.

What the galaxy map marks

The map shows the area around Kewa, including places already discovered or visited. The galaxy is divided into large sectors. A sector can hold stars, debris fields, static fields, and other points of interest. Visually, sectors are hexes on an X–Y grid, with each row offset from the row above. A blue boundary rings the explorable area. Kewa can travel to hexes on that border, but hexes beyond it are not revealed for new travel requests.

Markers the galaxy article names:

The biome article adds that the galaxy view’s top row shows Kewa’s health, happiness, and energy, with temperature at the bottom left. It does not publish the temperature bands or say how hot or cold a region has to be before crops fail.

System view and ships

System view sits between the settlement camera and the full galaxy map. Every place Kewa visits has one. In empty space, Kewa is alone in that view. Some locations show only Kewa and an event, and the article’s example of an event is an adrift spaceship.

From system view the Peeps can send a Scout spaceship or a Trade spaceship to investigate and interact with events, or send Settlement spaceships to settle habitable worlds. The buildings list includes a Scout-related path through later industry: a Spaceship Builder requires the Fuel Plant, a Space Port requires the Spaceship Builder, and a Settlement Spaceship Launcher requires the Strange Transmitter. Construction costs for those late buildings are on the official list; this page does not copy the entire late-game cost table.

GameObserver’s review describes the same expansion in different words: multiple planets, aliens, trade, spaceports, scout ships, and shipping routes. It also says an unhappy Kewa can leave on their own. That uncommanded jump, including asteroids and crop damage, is the review’s account and is kept separate from the wiki’s energy and detour rules.

Outposts

A settleable planet is the map marker tied to a new settlement. Steam’s pitch for outposts is supplementary resources, with the duration of the stay tied to Kewa. The power article adds a practical difference once you are there: Solar Panels work reliably on a settled planet in a system with a star, and they are not a consistent power source on Kewa.

The resources page lists crystal among later natural resources, and the buildings list gives the Blast Mine’s product as crystal, with the Research Facility as its tech prerequisite. A Steam screenshot titled Crystal Planet shows a surface camp among purple crystals. This guide does not claim that every crystal world looks like that image. The press kit’s procedural cosmos, and the review’s note that galaxies differ, argue against one fixed planet layout.

Running two settlements at once is a load the reviews mention and the wiki implies by giving you both a home on Kewa and settlement ships. Neither source publishes a worker cap, a ship cargo number, or a maximum number of outposts. Those figures are unknown here.

Aliens

Steam’s “Friends Along the Way” section says alien species offer extra objectives and rewards, trade, and new technologies. The developer’s game page says the Peeps trade with aliens while learning about Kewa. The press kit asks who else is traveling the depths of space, and it does not answer with faction names.

There is no aliens article at the usual Hooded Horse wiki address for this game. The galaxy, Kewa, Peeps, buildings, and resources pages that were fetched name ancient Peeps, events, and strange satellites. They do not name living factions or publish a trade inventory. Voice credits in the press kit include Ublo and N’Orva alongside Peep names such as Baz the Wanderer. The kit does not identify which roles are aliens.

Alien faction names, diplomacy rules, and specific trade goods are unknown on this site. Repeating the store’s promise of trade and technology is as far as the sourced record goes.

What is still unknown

Also unpublished in the pages used here: the meaning of a static field in play, the contents of a “strange satellite,” scenario objectives that use the galaxy, and whether GameObserver’s uncommanded teleport is the same event as the wiki’s food detour. Patch notes after the 16 October 2026 release were not part of this research.
